Spoiler alert…Al Gore did not invent the internet. In fact, the internet truly began back in the early 1900’s with the invention of the telegraph system. [Wikipedia.org] Though one would never think of a phone system as the early forms of the internet. It wasn’t until the inception of computers in the 1950’s where networking computers in order to easily transfer their data made sense. Telephone lines were made to transfer small amounts of information…ie: the human voice. Remember the days of the dial up modem?

In order to transfer large amounts of data something new had to be made and it had to be the same across the world. That is why the internet as we know it today was developed. Transferring large amounts of data between mainframes and servers was the original purpose of the internet / ethernet. Today we use the internet for research, shopping, banking and even entertainment.
